F0 declination in read-aloud and spontaneous speech

چکیده
This paper deals with a prosodic comparison of spontaneous and read-aloud speech. More speci cally, the study reports data on F0 declination in these two speaking modes using Swedish materials. For both speaking styles the analysis revealed negative slopes, a steepness-duration dependency with declination being less steep in longer utterances than in shorter ones and resetting at utterance boundaries. However, there was a di erence in degree of declination between the two speaking styles, read-aloud speech in general having steeper slopes, a more apparent time-dependency and stronger resetting than spontaneous speech.

A study of F0 declination in Japanese: towards a discourse model of prosodic structure
This study investigates F0 declination as a global-level prosodic phenomenon, establishing a new discourse-based model of prosodic structure in Japanese. The model includes two levels of declination in a hierarchical order: utterance units and prosodic paragraphs, a higher level of declination consisting of embedded declinations. Comparing and contrasting three types of discourse -read speech, ...
متن کاملMeasures of the sentence intonation of read and spontaneous speech in American English.
The visual abstraction procedure used in previous studies of declination was tested using 12 subjects who each fit the F0 contours of 19 spoken short simple sentences with baselines. These baselines were found to be poorly replicated the fitters. An objective all-points least-squares best-fit procedure was tested on this corpus and on a set of sentences that had been produced in both spontaneou...
متن کاملF0 declination in spontaneous Estonian: implications for pitch-related preplanning in speech production
This study contributes to the discussion on pitch-related preplanning in spontaneous speech production. It investigates the relationship of phrasal length with declination slope, and the initial and final F0 height in intonation phrases extracted from a corpus of Estonian dialogues. The analysis is based on data from 10 speakers. The results show that the declination in shorter phrases is steep...
متن کاملCommon and Language Dependent Phonetic Differences Between Read and Spontaneous Speech in Russian, Finnish and Dutch
This preliminary study aims to reveal both common and language-specific phonetic differences between read and spontaneous speech in three typologically unrelated languages – Russian, Finnish, and Dutch. These languages differ in prosody, sound systems, speech styles, and means for conveying intonational meaning. Spontaneous speech was recorded from 5 to 8 speakers in each language. Transliterat...
متن کاملPitch declination and reset as a function of utterance duration in conversational speech data
This paper describes the declination trends of f0 in conversational speech data. A 10-minute dialogue interaction from a corpus of spontaneous speech was annotated to identify intersilence units (ISU) and turns. Detailed annotation of the ISUs was conducted in terms of communicative types and pitch patterns. f0 declination was measured by (1) fitting a regression line to f0 trajectories and (2)...
